NEW WAVERLY -- Robin Grant's two-run home run in the top of the sixth helped Elkhart to a 2-1 win over New Waverly on Monday night in District 21-3A action.

Grant's two-run shot came after New Waverly took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth. She finished her night 2-for-3.

Camryn Rucker got the pitching victory by pitching seven innings, allowing no earned runs with 12 strikeouts.

Rucker, Megan Davis, and Preslye Cox each recorded a hit in the winning effort.

Elkhart (14-1, 4-0) returns to action Tuesday night at home against Palestine Westwood.

 

BASEBALL

Beckville Rips Tenaha

TENAHA -- The 13th-ranked Beckville Bearcats rolled to a 17-2 win over Tenaha in District 23-2A action Monday night.

Braden Wise led Beckville (8-0, 3-0) by going 3-for-3 with two doubles, three RBIs, four runs, and two steals. He also recorded the win on the mound, allowing one run on two hits with four strikeouts in his two innings of work.

Trey Lindsey finished 2-for-3 and scored three runs, John Bounds went 2-for-3 with a doubles, two RBIs, and two runs, while Ben Bridges collected two hits and drove in two runs.

Beckville's season resumes Tuesday at home against Mount Enterprise.
