BRYAN -- Mount Pleasant's Michael Kopech is player of the year on the Texas Sports Writers Association/Collin Street Bakery Class 4A All-State Baseball Team, which was released Wednesday.

The first-round pick of the Boston Red Sox, who signed with the club, had an 0.47 earned run average with 143 strikeouts and 18 walks in 74 2/3 innings.

Kopech is one of three East Texans named to the first team, joining Hallsville pitcher and TCU signee Connor Reich and Whitehouse standout and Texas Tech signee Patrick Mahomes, who was voted in at utility.

Hallsville junior third baseman Austin Blakeley was selected to the third team.
