SAN ANTONIO -- The Mount Vernon Tigers couldn't quite finish it off.

Despite keeping it close, the Tigers fell to Bowie, 32-28 on Saturday morning in the Class 3A state championship game.

Mount Vernon trailed the majority of the contest, though never by more than seven. Neither team shot the ball well, Mount Vernon shooting 26.7 percent and Bowie (34-8) shooting just five percent better.

The Tigers cut the lead to 30-28 after a free throw from Brandon Aguilar with 35 seconds left. After Kason Spikes missed a free throw on the ensuing possession for Bowie, Mount Vernon had a chance to tie or even take the lead.

However, the Tigers (35-2) were fouled and missed the front end of a 1-and-1. Spikes was fouled again but made both free throws this time, sealing the Tigers' fate with four seconds left.

Daniel Moseley led all scorers with 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting to go with 10 rebounds. Kason Fletcher led Mount Vernon, scoring 16 points on 4-of-8 from the field.
