As expected, Class 6A will gain three more teams from East Texas, as John Tyler, Longview, and Lufkin are headed up from 5A.

In advance of February's biennial reclassification and realignment, the University Interscholastic League released its enrollment cutoff numbers for all classifications Friday morning.

JT, Longview, and Lufkin all turned in enrollment figures that met the new requirements for 6A, which will house schools with an enrollment of 2,150 and above.

Re-districting won't take place until February, but it is expected that John Tyler and Longview will join East Texas' only current 6A school Tyler Lee in a district that will likely be comprised of schools from the southern or eastern area of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

The last time all three shared the same district was 2007, when they were joined by schools from Mesquite ISD.
