The first offer is in for who many feel will be the next great defensive tackle from East Texas.

John Tyler head coach Ricklan Holmes tweeted that Lions 2016 DT Braylon Jones received his first Division I FBS offer Wednesday when Navy formally made the rising star a target.

Jones (6-3, 275) is widely considered to be among the state's best players in the 2016 recruiting class, and could follow in the footsteps of other recent defensive tackles that have headed to the next level, which include former Carthage standout Isaiah Golden (2013, Texas A&M), Longview DT Zaycoven Henderson (2014, Texas A&M) and Gladewater lineman Daylon Mack (2015, Texas A&M commit).

There are now four East Texans in the 2016 class with FBS offers. In addition to Braylon Jones are Athens athlete Travon Fuller and Nacogdoches safeties Brandon Jones and Corey Lane, who received his first offer from Louisiana Tech also on Wednesday.

Jones had a breakout sophomore season for John Tyler in 2013. He finished with 61 tackles, eight for loss, 2.5 sacks and one fumble recovery on his way to earning ETSN.fm Super Team Defensive Newcomer of the Year honors.

John Tyler will field a team full of potential DIvision I signees this fall. Aside from Braylon Jones, the Lions will have quarterback Geovari McCollister, athlete Jeremy Wilson, receivers Nick Cain and Rodeny Bendy, offensive lineman Ken Holmes, defensive lineman Jassavia Reese, linebacker Jaylon Reese and cornerback Isaac Warren in the 2015 class alone.

JT finished the 2013 season with a 7-4 record, including a second-place finish in District 16-4A.
