New Boston’s Jeff Gladney Commits to TCU

TCU visited Kilgore on Thursday for its first satellite football camp of the year and received great news shortly afterward.

New Boston athlete Jeff Gladney verbally committed to the Horned Frogs' staff after the camp and plans to make Ft. Worth his home at this time next year.

Gladney chose TCU in favor of offers from North Texas, Northern Illinois, Rice, Texas State, Tulsa and UTSA and gives Gary Patterson's squad its first East Texas player in the Class of 2015.

"The big thing I'm proud of is all the kids that come to our school graduate," Patterson said Thursday prior to Gladney's commitment. "A lot of them played in the NFL. Drew Coleman came from Henderson, Quincy Butler played at Tyler Junior College, Stephen Hodge played at Tatum, Jason Teague played at Carthage. All of those guys played at a very high level, had a chance to get into an NFL camp and they all have their degree.

"That's what you want to go to college for."

Per NCAA rules, coaches can't talk to the media about prospective players.

Gladney can't sign with TCU until Feb. 4, 2015.

The athlete's versatility makes him an attractive target for college programs. He starred at receiver and defensive back as a junior for New Boston.

Gladney had 570 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. He also was a first-team all-district selection at defensive back last season and helped lead the Lions to their first-ever state semifinal berth.
