There's been no stopping the Newton Eagles so far this season.

After breezing through the regular season unscathed, the postseason has been equally unchallenging for the Eagles, who are just one win away from their first state championship game since 2005.

Newton, which averages 55.5 points per game, is not short on offensive playmakers and the Eagles got a big-time performance from junior running back Kevin Shorter in last week's 49-13 victory over Franklin.

Shorter (6-1, 185) rushed for a season-high 275 yards and four touchdowns on just 14 carries to earn ETSN.fm Dairy Queen Offensive Player of the Week honors. He scored on runs of 59, 34, 53 and 31 yards.

For the season, Shorter has rushed for 1,760 yards and 31 touchdowns and averages more than 13 yards per carry.

It was yet another dominant performance from the Newton offense, which scored at least 49 points for the ninth time in 13 games.

Newton (13-0) takes on Cameron Yoe (13-0) in a Class 2A Division I state semifinal at 7:30 p.m. Friday from Shenandoah's Woodforest Bank Stadium.
