The Newton Eagles, who began the season at No. 1, returned to the spot in the latest Associated Press Class 2A poll, which was released Monday.

Newton (6-0) jumped to No. 1 after its 43-24 win over Winnie East Chambers and previous-No. 1 Cameron Yoe's loss last week. Tatum (6-0) moved up one spot to No. 4 following its impressive 42-21 win over previously-unbeaten White Oak. Hughes Springs (6-0), which edged past Paul Pewitt 14-13 last week, remained at No. 10.

Corrigan-Camden, Garrison, Daingerfield, Malakoff, Waskom and New Boston all received votes in the 2A poll.

Whitehouse (6-0), 63-7 winners over Lindale, held on to the No. 3 spot in the Class 4A rankings.

In the 3A poll, Gilmer (7-0) remained in the top spot after a dominating 64-7 victory over Henderson last Saturday. Kilgore (5-0), which was off last week, remained at No. 5. Carthage (6-1) dropped one spot to No. 7 after its 55-6 rout of Huntington.

Tenaha (5-1) is still ranked No. 3 in the 1A poll after a 66-0 shutout of Sabine Pass in its District 11-A Division I opener. West Sabine (5-0), which overwhelmed Shelbyville 52-20 last week, remained at No. 8.

Longview (5-1), which rolled to a 42-10 win over Rockwall-Heath last week, received one vote in the Class 5A poll.
