Newton junior Kevin Shorter already has multiple offers, and he added another to that list Thursday night.

The 6-foot, 188-pound athlete, who ran for more than 1,800 yards and 31 touchdowns in 2012, received an offer from Arkansas on Thursday night, Shorter told ETSN.fm. The offer was not a surprise considering Arkansas defensive coordinator Chris Ash visited Shorter in person Jan. 21.

The Arkansas offer gives Shorter seven Division I FBS offers and three Division I FCS offers: Arkansas, Baylor, Georgia Tech, Houston, Texas A&M, ULM, Utah, Lamar, McNeese State, and Stephen F. Austin State. Shorter has also received interest from LSU and Oklahoma. LSU invited him to a Feb. 16 junior day.

Arkansas fans probably hope the recent commitment of Shorter's Newton teammate, D.J. Dean, can help the Hogs establish goodwill with the 2014 prospect. Dean committed to Utah on July 27, but decommitted later in the recruiting process. He took an official visit to North Texas the weekend of Jan. 19, but got an in-home visit from Arkansas on Jan. 21 and committed on his official visit to Fayetteville this past weekend.

Dean is No. 10 on the latest ETSN 25 recruiting rankings.
