Newton’s Roney Elam Picks Up Offer From Oklahoma

Newton's Roney Elam continues to pick offers as the 2015 defensive back picked up his eighth in less than two weeks when Oklahoma extended an offer, Elam announced on his Twitter account early Thursday evening.

Elam (6-2, 175) now has four offers each from Big 12 and SEC programs -- Baylor, OU, Texas and Texas Tech from the Big 12 and Alabama, LSU, Mississippi State and Texas A&M in the SEC.

The Newton standout, who starred on both sides of the ball last fall, is projected to be a cornerback or safety at the next level.

In 2013, Elam passed for 939 passing yards and 11 touchdowns, ran for 437 yards and five TDs, while intercepting five passes and forcing one fumble on defense for Newton, which went 12-1 and advanced to the Class 2A Division I regional semifinals.

Elam could become the third Newton recruit in the last three years to sign with a major Division I FBS program, joining 2013 Arkansas signee D.J. Dean and 2014 Texas signee Kevin Shorter.
