Newton 2016 linebacker Tanner Holmes picked up an offer from Central Arkansas on Wednesday, he announced via Twitter.

It was the second offer for Holmes (6-3, 220), who received an offer from McNeese State back in February.

Holmes, who also played tight end on offense, racked up 197 tackles as a junior in helping lead Newton to an appearance in the Class 3A Division II state championship game last December.

Central Arkansas, like McNeese State, is a Division I FCS program that competes in the Southland Conference. Last season, the Bears were 6-6 overall and 5-3 in league play. UCA, which is located in Conway, Ark., is coached by Steve Campbell.

Newton is losing quarterback/safety Roney Elam (Texas A&M) and running back/corner back Calum Foster (McNeese State) to graduation, but does bring back both Holmes and running back/defensive back Gabe Foster, who has a few FCS offers to his name as well.

The Eagles open the season Aug. 28 at home against Tatum.
