TYLER -- When No. 8 Slocum needed someone to deliver, Valerie Larkin stepped up.

Larkin scored 40 points to lead the Lady Mustangs to a thrilling 95-90 double-overtime victory against No. 5 Kerens in Tuesday's Class A Division I Region III basketball quarterfinal at Tyler Junior College.

Larkin went back and forth with Kerens guard Taylor Ames. Kerens (27-5) had to play from behind all night, but the LadyCats kept coming back, led by Ames, who scored a game-high 42 points.

Slocum (31-2) plays undefeated No. 2 Martinsville at 10 a.m. Friday in a 1A D-I Region III semifinal. That game will be followed by No. 1 Martin's Mill vs. No. 15 Zavalla at noon in the other regional semifinal.

Five Slocum players scored and all reached double figures: Larkin (40), Brice Sizemore (16), Jordan Ives (14), Landry Lane (14), and Kelsee Webb (11).

Ames split free throws with 17 seconds left to tie the game 67-67 and send it to overtime. Ames scored the Kerens' final eight points of the first overtime, tying the game and then twice giving the LadyCats the lead at 76-74 and 78-76, but Slocum fought back behind Larkin and Sizemore.

Larkin hit a three-pointer for an 83-80 lead in the second OT. Kerens twice pulled to within a point at 85-84 and 91-90, but Sizemore sealed the win with four free throws.
