TROUP – The ninth-ranked West Rusk Raiders had little trouble remaining unbeaten, shutting out District 9-3A Division II foe Troup, 38-0, Friday night at Tiger Stadium.

Raiders running back Jaylon Garland rushed for 144 yards and three first-half touchdowns, helping West Rusk (4-0, 1-0) to a 28-0 halftime lead.

The scoring started on the first drive when quarterback LaJavius Harper threw a 43-yard touchdown to Dillon Walker.

The Raiders held a decisive 377-117 lead in total yards, and 14-6 in first downs midway by the half.

The scoring slowed but the West Rusk totals rolled. A 23-yard field goal by Levi Hughes would be the only points in the third quarter.

The final Raiders score, a 1-yard touchdown by LaDarron Jones, came late in the game after a Troup fumble.

West Rusk amassed 568 total yards on the night. Harper was 9-of-15 for 252 yards passing.

Troup gained 98 yards on the ground and threw for 128 yards as a team.

West Rusk will entertain Harleton next Friday. The Tigers (3-2, 0-2) have an open week before playing at Harleton on Oct.20.
