One of the top overall recruits in East Texas' 2017 class picked offer No. 9 on Friday as John Tyler receiver Damion Miller earned an FBS scholarship opportunity from North Texas.

Miller, who is committed to Texas, tweeted the news early in the afternoon.

Miller (6-1, 189) is now tied with Liberty-Eylau defensive end and fellow Longhorns pledge Lagaryonn Carson with the most offers in the area's current recruiting cycle.

North Texas is under new leadership as Seth Littrell was hired as the Mean Green's new head football coach after serving as the assistant head coach and tight ends coach at North Carolina the previous two seasons.

Prior to his time at UNC, Littrell served as offensive coordinator at both Arizona and Indiana after a four-year stint as Texas Tech's running backs coach from 2005-08.

North Texas is coming off a tough 2015 campaign, which resulted in a 1-11 finish and a mid-season firing of head coach Dan McCarney, who had been with the Mean Green since 2011.

Miller, after bursting onto the scene as a sophomore in 2014, followed with a standout junior season. He finished with 41 catches for a team-high 912 yards and nine touchdowns in 12 games.

John Tyler, which has two other 2017 prospects with FBS offers (quarterback Bryson Smith and cornerback Javontavius Mosley), was a 8-4 in 2015 and fell to eventual state finalist Mansfield Lake Ridge in the area round of the Class 5A Division I playoffs.

The Lions will jump up to 6A in 2016 and share a district with fellow East Texas schools Tyler Lee and Longview along with Mesquite, Mesquite Horn, North Mesquite, Rockwall, and Rockwall-Heath.

JT opens the season at home on Aug. 27 against Plano West.

Miller, like all 2017 recruits, can officially sign with the school of his choosing on Feb. 1, 2017.
