Pair of Newton Players Pick Up Offers From Southern Miss

Minutes after receiving his first offer, Darwin Barlow got another.

He wasn't the only one. Barlow along with teammate Tamauzia Brown both reported offers from Southern Miss on Monday afternoon.

Barlow has been the clear-cut best offensive player for Newton this season. He has totaled 1,734 yards on 164 carries to go with 33 touchdowns.

Brown has been no slouch, either. He leads East Texas in interceptions with 11 this season. On offense, where he plays receiver, he has 44 catches for 721 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Barlow's only other offer is from Baylor, while Brown boasts offers from Baylor and Oklahoma State.

Newton defeated West Rusk, 21-7 on Friday to advance to the regional finals. It will face Waskom at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Lufkin.
