Palestine Running Back Ben Luckett Commits to ULM

Palestine's Ben Luckett on Thursday morning became the third East Texan in the 2014 football class to commit to ULM.

The Palestine coaching staff reported Luckett's committed to ETSN.fm just before 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

Luckett joins teammate Brian Thlang (6-foot-2, 290-pound offensive lineman) and Chapel Hill athlete Wesley Thompson (6-1, 185) as East Texas' three ULM commitments. Thlang committed in June, while Thompson committed to ULM on Monday.

Luckett is also the third Palestine Wildcat to commit to a Division I FBS program. In addition to Luckett and Thlang, 6-foot-3, 230-pound Jarrell Owens, who is projected as an edge defensive player in college, is a TCU commitment.

An injury took two games of his senior season away, but the 6-foot, 195-pound Luckett made the most of his nine games of action. He finished with 175 carries for 1,255 yards and 13 touchdowns, which included 157 yards and one score on 30 carries in the Wildcats' 44-34 first-round playoff loss to Jasper at SFA's Homer Bryce Stadium.

With the addition of his 426 yards and seven touchdowns during his junior season, Luckett ran for almost 1,700 yards and 20 touchdowns in his final 19 high school contests. Palestine finished 7-4 each season.

Luckett is 1 of 10 East Texans in the 2014 class with a ULM offer.

Thirty-five 2014 East Texans hold at least one D-I FBS offer, including 22 players who have already committed. In comparison, the 2013 East Texas class had 17 D-I FBS signees.
