WHITEHOUSE — Patrick Mahomes threw five touchdowns passes to push the Whitehouse Wildcats to 8-0 with a 52-21 victory over the Nacogdoches Dragons on Friday night at Wildcat Stadium.

Mahomes was 15 of 32 through the air for 297 yards. Three of his touchdown passes were to Texas Tech commit Dylan Cantrell, his only three receptions of the night, and Coleman Patterson hauled in the other two scoring paases.

Despite Whitehouse jumping out to a 14-0 lead with a 28-yard touchdown pass from Mahomes to Patterson and a 50-yard interception return by Nate Brooks, Nacogdoches (0-8) didn't back down.

The Dragons responded with a 9-yard touchdown pass from Hunter McClellan to Wes Smith to cut the score to 14-7.

After Mahomes found Cantrell for a 23-yard scoring strike, the Wildcats got the ball back and looked to score again, but Mahomes was picked off by Augustin Johnson.

Nacogdoches drove the ball deep into Whitehouse territory, and Coronado Tolbert scored on a 1-yard run with 2 second left in the half to make it just a 21-13 Whitehouse lead at the break.

Nacogdoches got the ball first in the second half, but Whitehouse forced a punt, which was blocked by Matt Gipson. The Dragons did hold the Wildcats to a field goal, a 37-yarder by Destin Wilkins to put the score at 24-13.

After that, it was all Whitehouse.

Mahomes had touchdowns on the next three drives — a 4-yarder to Cantrell, a 68-yarder to Patterson and a 54-yarder to Cantrall — and Ryan Cheatham came in to add a 10-yard scoring run to make it 52-13.

Patterson had five receptions for 149 yards, and Cantrell had 81 yards receiving.

The Wildcats had 342 total yards, the bulk coming through the air.

Nacogdoches added a late touchdown pass from McClellan to L.J. Barnes from 23 yards out.

McClellan was 10 of 12 for 119 yards and two touchdowns. Barnes and Smith had six catches each for 162 total yards.

Nacogdoches will host John Tyler next week, and Whitehouse will face Corsicana.
