It didn't take long for Pine Tree to fill its head football coaching vacancy.

Less than two weeks after receiving the resignation of David Collins, Pine Tree ISD announced its decision to hire Kerry Lane as its next head coach and assistant athletic director on Tuesday.

Lane, who has spent the previous four seasons as wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator at Gilmer, will replace Collins, who left to become the head coach at Richardson Pearce last month.

Collins produced a 5-15 record as Pirates head coach in 2014 and 2015.

Gilmer thrived in the four years with Lane on staff, compiling a 56-5 record, including a state championship in 2014. Lane has previous coaching experience at Arp, Gladewater, and Waskom.

Pine Tree, which begins official workouts on Aug. 8, will compete in District 16-5A along with Greenville, Hallsville, Marshall, Mount Pleasant, Sulphur Springs, and Texas High.
