MOUNT PLEASANT -- The Pine Tree Lady Pirates are through to the third round of the girls soccer playoffs after a 1-0 shutout of Texas High on Thursday night in their Class 4A area-round matchup at Sam Parker Field.

After going against a stiff wind in a scoreless first half, Pine Tree (18-2-1) took advantage of the wind in the final 40 minutes by putting up 12 of its 15 shots on goal, including the game-winner 10 minutes into the second half.

Victoria Flores' free kick found the Texas High box, and after a couple of failed clearing attempts, the Lady Pirates' Madi Vineyard blasted a goal from point-blank range.

"It was a great win after a short turnaround from Tuesday's playoff game," said Pine Tree coach Daniel Rich. "They put a lot of pressure on us and never backed down. It was a good game to prepare us for the next round. I'm extremely proud of how my team played tonight."

Pine Tree will face Whitehouse, which defeated Liberty-Eylau on Thursday, next week in the sectional round of the postseason.

Each team had chances to get on the scoreboard in the first half. Pine Tree goalie Shayna Felker turned away a Texas High free kick to thwart one attempt, while the Lady Tigers' keeper came up with big save on Lorena Gonzalez's shot off a breakaway.

Pine Tree outshout Texas High 15-3 for the match and 12-1 in the second half.
