Pine Tree Lady Pirates Claim Wills Point Tournament Championship

WILLS POINT -- The Pine Tree Lady Pirates swept three matches on Saturday to claim the Wills Point tournament championship.

Pine Tree (12-2) defeated Sunnyvale (25-16, 26-24), Commerce in the semifinals (25-16, 26-24) and Wills Point in the finals (25-16, 26-24).

The Lady Pirates' season resumes Aug. 28 at home against Spring Hill.

Van Captures Eustace Tournament Title

EUSTACE -- The Van Lady Vandals continued their hot start to the volleyball season by claiming the Eustace tournament championship with three victories on Saturday.

Van (15-1) defeated Mabank 25-14, 25-22, Eustace in the semifinals (25-22, 25-20) and Mineola in the finals (23-25, 26-24, 25-12).

The Lady Vandals' season continues Aug. 28 at Troup.

New Diana wins Overton Tournament championship

OVERTON -- New Diana marched to a championship at the Overton Tournament on Saturday behind Courtney Rogers' three-match totals of 51 kills, two blocks, 12 assists, 15 digs, and two aces.

New Diana (13-3) swept Forrestburg 25-9, 25-7 before topping Harmony 25-15, 23-25, 25-14 in the tournament semifinal. New Diana outlasted Cayuga 25-18, 20-25, 25-19 in the championship match.

Madison Sampson had nine kills, one block, 43 assists, 10 digs, and 15 aces during the three matches, while Cheyenne Spell added nine kills, one block, 29 assists, 27 digs, and four aces. Kayli Morvan had a team-high 25 digs to accompany one kill and three aces.

Jessica Hampton added 15 kills, six blocks, six digs, and seven aces. Bailee Birdsong contributed nine kills, six blocks, three assists, 12 digs, and three aces, while Christy Hjorth had five kills and three blocks.

Arp hosts New Diana and Tyler Grace in a tri-match Tuesday.

Beckville Goes 2-1 on Final Day in Overton

OVERTON -- Beckville went 2-1 on the final day of the Playoff Preview Tournament on Saturday.

Beckville (7-8) defeated Cross Roads (25-22, 25-22), lost to Quitman (21-25, 25-20, 25-20) and downed Waskom (25-10, 25-16).

In the win over Cross Roads, Shelbi Dodson led the way with seven kills, two aces and 10 digs. Montana Searcy added eight assists and six digs and Taylor Lindsay and Ivy Rieke combined for 19 digs.

Against Quitman, Lindsay provided 10 kills and 18 digs in the losing effort. Searcy added 17 assists and 13 digs, Rieke had seven kills and 18 digs, Carson Blair contributed six kills and 11 digs and Dodson racked up six kills and 12 digs.

Rieke had nine kills, five digs and two blocks in the win over Waskom. Searcy added 13 assists and Dodson provided five kills and 13 digs.

Beckville returns to the court at home against West Rusk on Aug. 28.
