PARIS – The defending state champion Pleasant Grove Hawks began their title defense with a dominating 56-12 rout of Dallas Roosevelt in their Class 4A Division II bi-district playoff Thursday night.

Pleasant Grove (9-2), which scored the game’s first 35 points and rolled up 691 yards of offense on the night, will face Waco Connally (8-3) in the area round next week. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. Friday from Royse City ISD Stadium.

Hawks junior quarterback Ben Harmon completed 6 of 7 passes for 204 yards and three touchdowns, two of which went to Jackson Cobb, who finished with 92 yards receiving.

Pleasant Grove junior running back Bruce Garrett ran for 163 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries, while senior running back James Wiggins totaled 119 yards and scored twice.
