DIANA -- The Hughes Springs Mustangs rolled up 356 rushing yards in a 46-14 rout of New Diana on Friday night.

Hughes Springs (5-0, 2-0 in District 9-2A Division II) had four ball carriers rush for at least 54 yards, led by Fredrick Hopkins, who finished with 151 yards and two touchdowns on just 11 carries.

Michael Martinez carried 17 times for 84 yards and two touchdowns, quarterback Chad McKinney ran for 61 yards and a score on seven attempts and Chris Royal had 54 yards and a TD on 13 carries.

McKinney was also 3 of 4 passing for 76 yards for Hughes Springs.

The Mustangs held New Diana (3-2, 0-2) to 330 yards and forced six turnovers. McKinney and Hopkins each had an interception, while Austin Calcote, Hunter Smith, Malik Chism and Paul Calderon all recovered a fumble.

New Diana was led by Garrett Barton, who rushed for 123 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries. He was also 4 of 6 passing for 79 yards. DeQuailyn Hollins had 169 total yards -- 79 receiving on six catches and 90 rushing on seven attempts.

Brandon Wesley was the Eagles' top defensive performer, finished with 19 tackles (four for loss).

Hughes Springs returns to action next Friday at home against Paul Pewitt, while New Diana tries to secure its first district win of the season next Friday at Ore City.
