Corsicana head football coach and athletic director Phil Castles has accepted the same position at Henderson, where he will replace Dickey Meeks, the Corsicana Daily Sun confirmed.

The Sun reports that Castles met with the Corsicana football players Wednesday morning and informed them he had accepted the job at Henderson.

The Henderson school board will meet at noon Monday to officially hire Castles to the position.

“I’ve verbally accepted the head coaching position at Henderson,” Castles told the newspaper. “They have to do their stuff over there in Henderson.”

Castles will return to this side of Texas since leaving Chapel Hill for Corsicana. He coached the Tigers for four seasons, in which they posted a 30-19 record and reached the Class 4A Division II state semifinals in 2011.

Corsicana finished 2012 with a 4-6 record and took third in District 16-4A behind John Tyler and Whitehouse.

Castles will replace Meeks, who took the head football coach and AD position at Pittsburg last month. Meeks coached Henderson for seven seasons and led the Lions to the Class 3A Division I state championship in 2010.
