Marshall offensive lineman Chasen Hines has been committed to LSU for several weeks, but that isn't stopping other Division I programs from pursuing.

Hines (6-3, 340) announced via Twitter on Wednesday that Rice has become the latest FBS school to offer him.

The Mavs lineman's 16 offers are the third-most among East Texas prospects in the 2018 class.

Hines helped Marshall’s offense to 3,939 total yards in an 11-game 2016 season. As a sophomore, he was part of an offense that put up 5,401 total yards and drove the team to a third-round appearance in the Class 5A Division I state playoffs.

Marshall will be under new leadership in 2017 after head coach Clint Harper left to become the athletic director for Duncanville ISD last month after four years on the job.

The Mavs hired former DeSoto head coach and SMU assistant Claude Mathis as its new head coach last month.

Rice competes in Conference USA and is coached by David Bailiff, who has been in charge of the program since 2007. The Owls are coming off a 3-9 finish in 2016, resulting in their first back-to-back losing seasons since 2010-11.

Hines, like all college football prospects currently in their junior year of high school, will become eligible to sign with any school that offers him in February.
