Rice + Toledo Each Offer Texas High’s Javon Thomas

Texas High running back Javon Thomas picked up two Division I FBS offers Tuesday when both Rice and Toledo made the Tigers' 2015 prospect a target, according to NetworkAthletics.com.

Thomas (6-2, 195) now has three FBS offers after receiving his first invitation from Navy on Monday of last week. Network Athletics also reported an FCS offer for Thomas from Sam Houston State.

Rice has been active in East Texas over the past few weeks. The Owls received a commitment from Edgewood quarterback Jackson Tyner on April 5 and offered New Boston athlete Jeff Gladney last Tuesday.

Toledo, meanwhile, is the 56th unique FBS program to offer one of East Texas' 22 recruits in the 2015 class that currently hold at least one offer. Toledo is just the second school from the Mid-American Conference to offer a player from the region. Northern Illinois has offered both Nacogdoches cornerback Jaylon Lane and New Boston athlete Jeff Gladney.

Rice had a banner 2013 season, winning Conference USA -- its first outright league championship since 1957 -- and posting a 10-4 overall record. The Owls ranked 17th in the nation with 227.4 rushing yards per game.

Toledo was 7-5 overall and 5-3 in MAC play last year. The Rockets also had a potent ground game in 2013, averaging 240.6 rushing yards per game -- 14th-best in the country.

Thomas hopes to help Texas High build upon last season's success, which included a District 14-4A championship. The Tigers will compete in the new 15-5A this fall along with Greenville, Hallsville, Longview, Marshall, Mount Pleasant, Pine Tree and Sulphur Springs.
