BULLARD – White Oak used big plays to score on four of its first five possessions and never looked back en route to a 35-14 win Friday against the Bullard Panthers at Panther Stadium.

Roughnecks running back Riley Lakin rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns, including capping an 11-play, 66-yard drive with an 8-yard touchdown run on the game’s opening possession. Lakin’s second touchdown, a 14-yarder, capped a five-play, 64-yard drive and gave White Oak a 28-0 lead midway through the second quarter.

After holding Bullard to a 3-and-out on its first possession, Roughnecks receiver Jansen McCurdy scored on a 64-yard catch-and-run thrown by receiver Gabe Michael on a double-pass from quarterback Dylan Gale.

Gale completed 8 of 17 passes for 79 yards and ran for two touchdowns.

McCurdy finished with four catches for 96 yards.

Bullard quarterback Connor Mebane rushed for 144 yards and a touchdown, which briefly cut the White Oak lead to 21 midway through the third quarter, but lost a fumble late in the game that killed a 12-play drive that started at the Bullard 1 and ended at the White Oak 25.

It was the game’s only turnover.

Running back Austin Skelton scored Bullard’s other touchdown when he broke free around left end and shrugged off a pair of Roughnecks defenders en route to a 61-yard score.

White Oak’s special teams had a big night, nearly tackling punter Zach Aldridge in his own end zone after he barely found the handle on a bad snap, and when Gale dropped a 43-yard punt on the Bullard 1.

Gale cashed in the near safety with a 2-yard touchdown run on the next play, handing the Roughnecks a 21-0 lead at the time.

Bullard (1-1) plays host to Diboll next Friday while White Oak (2-0) plays host to Spring Hill.
