SAN ANTONIO -- The sixth-ranked LaPoynor Flyerettes could not shake a tough shooting performance from the field, and suffered a season-ending defeat to the state's top-ranked team.

No. 1 Weimar took advantage of LaPoynor's offensive struggles to score a 49-32 win Friday morning in a Class 2A state semifinal in front of 3,949 fans at the Alamodome.

Weimar (38-2) will face Panhandle at 1:30 p.m. Saturday for the 2A championship, while LaPoynor finished with a 35-3 record.

LaPoynor made just 10 of 39 field goal attempts, or 25.6 percent, and met a decided disadvantage on the glass as Weimar outrebounded the Flyerettes for the game, 44-27.

Summer Almeida carried Weimar with 16 points, 17 rebounds and two blocks. Hunter Ervin contributed 10 points, three assists and two steals in the win.

LaPoynor had two players finished in double figures scoring. Te'Aire Hambrick had 13 points and seven rebounds, while Hannah Massey registered 11 points and four boards.
