Ryan Humphries + Sulphur Springs Overcome Early Deficit to Rout Pine Tree
LONGVIEW -- Ryan Humphries threw for 326 yards and five touchdowns to lead Sulphur Springs from an early deficit to beat Pine Tree, 49-21, in both teams' District 16-5A opener on Friday night.
Pine Tree took an early 14-0 lead, but Humphries and the Wildcats' offense were too explosive.
Humphries connected with Tyrese Peters on three passes -- all touchdowns -- for 150 yards on the night. Humphries also ran for a touchdown in the win.
Simeon Taylor also caught eight passes for 103 yards for Sulphur Springs (2-3, 1-0).
Maliq Owens led Pine Tree with 87 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 14 carries. His score put the Pirates up 7-0 early in the first quarter, and Keshon Williams added a 5-yard touchdown run to give Pine Tree a 14-0 lead.
Sulphur Springs finished with 518 total yards of offense in the win.
