CUSHING -- Chapel Hill defeated Carlisle, 57-22, Saturday for the 2016 Cushing Tournament title.

Mykaela Alfred and Aubrey Elder guided the Lady Bulldogs in the win with 10 points apiece.

April Walker and Brittley Maddox added nine and eight points, respectively, to cap a 5-0 weekend.

Chapel Hill (5-1) will be back in action at 2 p.m. Monday for a road game at Henderson. Carlisle also will be in action Monday as it travels to Tyler All Saints.

 

Henderson Hangs On Against Avinger

AVINGER -- Henderson got a real test from one of the premiere basketball programs at the Class A level, but it left Cass County with a 61-52 road win.

Tomariyah Dixon's 17 points plus double-digit efforts from Resha Hall and Jaclyn Garrett were enough to overcome a game-best 21 points from Avinger's BriAnna Young.

Hall scored 13 points and Garrett netted a further 11 tallies to supplement Dixon in the winning effort.

Henderson (2-1) will host Chapel Hill on Monday.

Avinger (0-1) hosts Ore City on Tuesday before breaking for Thanksgiving.

Neches Escapes Slocum

ELKHART -- Neches scratched out a 71-57 victory Saturday over Slocum.

Bryson Berrett scored a game-best 22 points for the Tigers in their road win. William Brownlow added another 15 points and three other players scored eight or more points to help the team keep ahead of three double-digit scorers for the Mustangs.

Jacob Lane scored 16 points to guide Slocum in the loss.

Neches (4-0) will travel to Frankston for a 3 p.m. start Tuesday.

Slocum (4-2) also will be in action Tuesday as the road team against Coldspring-Oakhurst.
