Saturday Basketball Roundup: Marshall Rolls to Kaufman Tournament Championship + More

KAUFMAN — The Marshall Mavericks cruised to a 111-66 win over Dallas Christian in the championship game of the Kaufman Holiday Classic on Saturday.

Shimar Jones and Jay McKnight each scored 20 points to lead Marshall (20-2). Tiandre Jackson-Young added 19 points, Justin Singleton had 13 and TJ Maxfield chipped in with 11 points in the win.

Earlier in the day, Marshall scored a 65-52 win over Dallas Life Oak Cliff. Maxfield had 13 points and 12 rebounds and Jones finished with 13 points to lead the way. Curtis Kador added 12 points, while Chris Brown finished with 10 points and 11 assists in the win.

Marshall’s season resumes Friday at Nacogdoches.

Kilgore Splits At Paris Tournament

PARIS — The Kilgore Bulldogs went 1-1 on the final day of the Paris Tournament on Saturday.

Nick Orange’s buzzer-beating mid-range jumper sent Kilgore to a 31-29 win over Red Oak Life, before the Bulldogs were defeated by Bonham, 44-39.

Orange led Kilgore (9-7) vs. Red Oak Life with 13 points and eight rebounds. Trey Conrod added seven points, 12 rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Xaviar Gaona finished with 13 points, six rebounds and two assists in the loss to Bonham. Clery Delmas added eight points and three rebounds, while Conrod and Stefun Tatum had seven points apiece in the loss.

Bonham was led by Dra Smith, who finished with 33 points, including 18 in the fourth quarter.

Kilgore returns to the court Tuesday at Pine Tree.

No. 19 Canton Wins Twice in Kaufman

KAUFMAN — The 19th-ranked Canton Eaglettes won a pair of games Saturday to close out play at the Kaufman Holiday Classic.

Canton took a 45-40 win over Jacksonville, followed by a 54-30 defeat of Dallas Gateway.

Courtney Roberts and Lilly Nelson led Canton (15-5) with eight points apiece against Jacksonville, while Nelson finished with 16 to lead the way in the victory over Dallas Gateway.

Canton opens District 15-3A play at home against Athens on Friday.

Chapel Hill Captures Third Place in Rusk

RUSK — The Chapel Hill Lady Bulldogs secured third place at the Rusk Tournament with a 63-38 rout of host Rusk on Saturday.

Shay Ross led Chapel Hill (17-7) with 22 points. Dai-jashnae Maddox added 15 points, while Gabby Brooks finished with 13 in the winning effort.

Chapel Hill will host Pollok Central on Monday, while Rusk is at Fairfield on Friday in the District 19-3A opener.

No. 12 Bullard Too Much For Quitman

HAWKINS — The 12th-ranked Bullard Lady Panthers rolled to a 62-21 win over Quitman on Saturday in the Hawkins Classic.

Lexi Abercrombie led Bullard (16-5) with 25 points, while Nikki Johnson finished with 13 in the winning effort.

Bullard continues District 16-3A play at home Friday against Gladewater. Quitman hosts Grand Saline on Tuesday in District 14-2A action.
