NEW LONDON -- Beckville won the West Rusk Tournament with a narrow 25-22, 26-24 victory Saturday against Elysian Fields in the title game.

Riley Seegers paced the Ladycats in the championship round match with eight kills and an ace. She also led the team on defense with 10 digs that saved Elysian Fields points.

Kinley Pepper recorded a team-best 29 assists in the championship game.

Beckville defeated Henderson's junior varsity team (25-7, 25-9), Carlisle (25-22, 25-15) and Maud (25-14, 25-11) to reach Elysian Fields in the final game of the tournament.

Kinley Blair led the Ladycats on the day with 33 points scored on 29 kills and four aces. Seegers scored 28 total points Saturday and Pepper set up 92 points on assists through the four matches.

Beckville will next visit Troup on Tuesday.

Elysian Fields also will be on the road to face Linden-Kildare on Tuesday.

 

Carlisle Places Third At West Rusk Tournament

NEW LONDON -- Carlisle clinched third place at the West Rusk Tournament with a 25-12, 25-9 match victory against Gladewater.

Cheyenne Vannier was the star of the match. She recorded five aced serves in addition to a team-best 14 assists.

The Lady Indians defeated Maud (25-16, 25-19), Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill (19-25, 25-23, 25-23) and Hawkins (25-19, 22-25, 25-9) before being eliminated out of championship contention by Beckville.

Carlisle will visit Hawkins on Tuesday.
