Callisburg Downs Beckville

MIDLOTHIAN — Beckville emerged early as East Texas’ greatest hope for a state volleyball championship and ended the season as the second-to-last local team standing.

Callisburg recovered from losing the upper hand in the fourth set of the Class 3A Region II championship game to knock out the Ladycats in five sets, 14-25, 25-23, 25-21, 23-25, 15-8, in Midlothian. The game ended about an hour after Carthage bowed out in the Class 4A state playoffs.

Leverett’s Chapel reached the state tournament at the Class 1A level.

Beckville finished its season three wins shy of a state championship and with a final record of 36-6. Callisburg advanced to next week’s Class 3A state tournament in Garland.

Four Ladycats reached double digits in scoring despite the loss.

Riley Seegers led the team with 18 points on 15 kills and three blocks. Kinley Blair followed close by way of 12 kills and four blocks.

Payton Jones scored 15 points and Hannah Humphries rounded out the first tier of Beckville scorers with 12 kills.

Kinley Pepper recorded 57 assists through the five-set match.
