BECKVILLE -- The Lady Bearcats, the No. 5 Class 2A team state-wide, fell to New Diana in a playoff warm-up match Saturday.

New Diana, a playoff-bound Class 3A team, won the match, 25-20, 26-24, 19-25, 25-15.

It was still a promising outing for Beckville (32-4 in the regular season).

Natalie Morris served up eight of the Lady Bearcats' 12 aces in the exhibition match. Carson Blair led the squad with 12 kills and Kassidy Alexander recorded 30 assists.

New Diana's scoring was not submitted.

Beckville, which went 10-0 in District 20-2A, has a first round bye in the Class 2A playoffs. It will face either Detroit or Quinlan Boles in the Region III area round.

New Diana will take on Corsicana Mildred in the Class 3A Region III bi-district round at 7 p.m. Tuesday inside Grand Saline High School's gym.

 

Winona Tops Tatum In Four Games

TATUM --The Lady Wildcats defeated Tatum in a playoff warm-up game Saturday, 25-12, 25-16, 21-25, 25-16.

Winona, ranked 28th in Class 3A state-wide, was led by a double-double from Kawaii Gordon. She finished the four-game match with 20 kills, 11 aces and nine digs. Randaysha Hanson rounded out Lady Wildcats scorers in double digits with 14 kills.

Bailey Daniels recorded a team-best 26 assists and was followed by Alex Hernandez's 17 assists.

Winona will begin its run in the Class 3A playoffs Tuesday against Van Alstyne, both schools are members of Region II. The game will be hosted by Sulphur Springs High School at 7:30 p.m.

Tatum will square off with Huntington at 6 p.m. Monday in the Class 4A Region III bi-district round. The game will be hosted by Nacogodches Central Heights High School.
