VAN -- Quitman topped Edgewood, 25-21, 25-17, Saturday to win the Van Tournament's championship game.

The Lady Bulldogs' win also kept them undefeated through the first week of the season.

Madalyn Spears, a sophomore, led Quitman (6-0) in the tournament championship game with 10 points. She recorded nine kills and an ace.

Kaci Raley followed on the score sheet with eight kills and a block.

Quitman also defeated Spring Hill, Big Sandy, Brownsboro and Sunnyvale during its time in Van.

The Lady Bulldogs and Edgewood will meet twice more this season in District 12-3A competition.

Quitman will next host Trinidad on Tuesday. Edgewood will travel to Fruitvale on Tuesday for its next contest.

Rains Goes 1-2 Saturday At Garland Tournament

ROWLETT -- Emory Rains dropped to a final record of 2-4 at the Garland Tournament after three games Saturday.

The Lady Cats defeated Little Elm 25-12, 25-22 ahead of back-to-back three-set losses to Mesquite and Texas High.

Charlotte Bradshaw led Rains with 16 points in the win against Little Elm. She recorded 13 kills and three aces.

Mesquite rallied from giving up the second set to the Lady Cats for a 25-21, 12-25, 25-23 victory.

Bradshaw led the losing side with 18 total points.

Texas High then avenged a loss to Rains on Thursday by way of a 14-25, 25-15, 25-22 victory in Rowlett.

Bradshaw once again led the way for Rains with 15 kills.

The Lady Cats will host Princeton on Tuesday.

Beckville Sweeps DeKalb + Hooks

LONGVIEW -- Beckville closed its time at the Longview Tournament with a 25-7, 25-5 win against DeKalb and a 25-14, 25-11 victory against Hooks.

Payton Jones led the Ladycats against DeKalb with six aces and five kills.

Kinley Blair put together a team-best nine points versus Hooks on eight kills and an ace.

Beckville (3-2) will face Henderson on Tuesday.
