TROUP — From the opening kickoff Friday night at Tiger Stadium, the Troup Tigers took complete control in a 40-0 shutout of West Rusk.

It didn’t take long for home field advantage to kick in for the Tigers (2-0). After a fumble by West Rusk (1-1) running back George Anthony, Troup’s Seth Gibson punched it in the end zone on a 2-yard run for the first of six Tigers touchdowns.

Gibson set the stage for Troup early in the game, recording all of his 107 rushing yards in the first half. Gibson only had four carries in the entire game, but racked up two touchdowns in the process. Tigers quarterback Blake Lynch only had to throw twice in the game, but did score on a quarterback keeper.

West Rusk quarterback Cayle Bickham threw 29 yards in the loss, with Dakota McCoy catching 23 of the yards. Anthony led the Raiders in rushing with 88 yards on 13 carries.

West Rusk tried to recover from its first-series fumble by driving the ball from their own 20-yard line to the Troup 23, only to turn it over on turns.

Jacob Beaty added a touchdown in the third quarter for Troup, which took a commanding 34-0 lead going into halftime. As a result, Troup would go on to score their sixth and final touchdown of the night on a one yard run by Beaty.

The Tigers play host to Quitman next Friday and West Rusk is at home against Big Sandy.
