ROYSE CITY -- Seth McGowan rushed for 231 yards and four touchdowns and Mesquite Poteet held off Marshall, 35-30, on Friday night in a Class 5A Division I bi-district game at Bulldog Stadium.

Marshall took an early 6-0 lead but Poteet responded with 21 consecutive points and held on to the lead for good. Poteet will face Prosper in the area round of the playoffs, while Marshall ended its season at 6-5.

J.J. Green threw for 117 yards and three touchdowns and rushed 14 times for 74 yards to lead the Mavericks, who saw their six-game winning streak come to an end. Rodarius Smith led Marshall on the ground with 149 yards and a touchdown.

McGowan's touchdown runs of 7 and 2 yards, coupled with Cam Lampkin's 26-yard score, gave Poteet a 21-6 lead in the first quarter.

Marshall was able to get as close to 21-16 after a Green-to-Tahj Washington touchdown and a Jacob Suarez field goal, but Marshall was never able to get any closer than five points from thereafter.
