HUMBLE -- The running finals were pushed to Monday because of rain, but that didn't prevent a half dozen East Texas boys track athletes from qualifying for state at Turner Stadium.

Diboll's Paige James, who threw 35 feet, 8 1/2 inches in the shot put, was the only East Texans -- and only girls competitor -- to qualify for state during Friday's field events, but Monday's running events resulted in six boys runners earning state berths.

Carthage's Tee Goree won the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.15 seconds on the same day that he got his first football offer. The Bulldog receiver snagged an offer from ULM.

Palestine's Mason Munoz qualified for the UIL state meet, which is May 10-11 at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, in two events. Munoz won the 800 meters (1:59.85) and placed second in the mile (4:35.01).

Carthage's Jared Twomey won gold in the 300-meter hurdles (38.93), while teammate Jeremy Matlock earned 800-meter silver with a time of 2:00.40. Lufkin Hudson's Tristen Woods and Jasper's Josh Thomas each earned a second-place finish -- Woods in the two-mile run (9:56.31) and Thomas in the 110-meter hurdles (14.74).
