Wouldn't it be something if one day Texas High quarterbacks Coltin Clack and Cade Pearson squared off against each other in a college game?

That's a real possibility as of Tuesday. SMU offered Clack just after Texas High completed its spring game.

The rising junior signal-caller is expected to be named successor to Pearson, who enrolled at North Texas in January after completing his senior season at Texas High. Clack was Pearson's back up last year.

North Texas and SMU are scheduled to meet each season through 2025.

For a second consecutive year, Texas High will have a quarterback and receiver duo with college interest.

Pearson played his senior campaign committed to North Texas while leading receiver Quan Hampton held offers and subsequently committed to Kansas. This year, the school will have Clack and Kansas receiver commitment Tevailance Hunt, a rising senior, as NCAA Division I FBS caliber players.

SMU has been busy within East Texas as it builds toward its 2018 and 2019 recruiting classes.

Rising senior John Tyler linebacker Tre Allison is verbally committed to the Mustangs and six other local 2018 graduates hold offers from the program.

At the rising junior level, Pittsburg receiver Keontae Burns and John Tyler left tackle Chance Billington preceded Clack as SMU targets.

The Mustangs will begin their third season with head coach Chad Morris this fall.

SMU went 5-7 last season and simply needed to win one of its final two games to achieve bowl eligibility. While it didn't accomplish a bowl appearance, the season was a three-win improvement compared to Morris' first year and a four-win improvement versus the 2014 season.

While visiting Longview for a coaching clinic in January, Morris told ETSN.fm that he thinks his 2017 team will be the first of his tenure to compete for the American Athletic Conference championship.

Clack, like all college football prospects currently in their sophomore year of high school, will become eligible to sign with any program that offers him in December of 2018.
