DAINGERFIELD -- Sophomore running back Kris Boyd rushed for 117 yards and scored three touchdowns to help Gilmer defeat Daingerfield, 43-14, in front of a packed crowd at Mickey Mayne Tiger Stadium.

It was a big night for Gilmer sophomores as Chase Tate and Jamel Jackson accounted for the other three touchdowns for the Buckeyes (3-1).

Boyd started the scoring off with a 7-yard run that capped a nine-playe, 70-yard drive that took three minutes off the clock. Pablin Olivares' kick was good and Gilmer led, 7-0.

That lead lasted 2:16 as Daingerfield (2-2) athlete Edwin Mims took a sweep 28 yards to the end zone. Carlos Macias' PAT evened the game, 7-7.

With just over a minute left in the first quarter Gilmer quarterback Tanner Barr found Trey Washington in the corner of the end zone.

Barr, who was 15-of-29 for 164 yards, threw to Washington often – 12 times, completing seven of them for 61 yards and one score.

With a little more than one minute left in the first half and trailing 14-7, Daingerfield went to Mims again. Mims took the zone-read up the middle for a  16-yard score to tie the game, 14-14, at the half.

Mims ended the night with 17 carries for 53 yards and was 3-for-11 for 35 yards passing and two TDs.

The third quarter belonged to Gilmer’s sophomore due of Boyd and Tate. Eight plays into the second half, Boyd took a dive 44 yards to paydirt, giving Gilmer a 21-14 lead.

At the 2:48 mark of the third quarter, Tate found the end zone for the first time on the night. Tate ended a six-play, 53-yard drive with a 9-yard touchdown run. Gilmer elected to go for two and was successful, building a 29-14 lead.

Gilmer’s defense stiffened up on the following Tigers drive, limiting Daingerfield to minus-4 yards. Tate then followed a 46-yard punt return for a touchdown.

Jackson found the end zone on a 41-yard run for the game's final score.

District starts up for both of these squads next week. Gilmer goes to Gladewater in the 16-3A opener, while Daingerfield plays host to Redwater in 8-2A Division I play.
