Southern Miss Offers Arp’s DeMarvion Overshown

Arp junior DeMarvion Overshown is rapidly becoming one of the area's most coveted prospects in the 2018 recruiting class. He picked up his fifth Division I FBS scholarship offer on Friday.

Overshown (6-4, 196) announced on Twitter that Southern Miss became the latest school to make him a target.

The Tigers' two-way standout also holds offers from SMU, TCU, Texas, and UTSA, along with an FCS opportunity from Stephen F. Austin.

Overshown's five FBS offers are the most among East Texans in the 2018 class.

Southern Miss, located in Hattiesburg, Miss., competes in Conference USA. The Golden Eagles are coached by Jay Hopson, and are coming off a 7-6 season in 2016. The campaign ended with a 28-21 win over Louisiana-Lafayette in the New Orleans Bowl on Dec. 17.

Overshown (6-4, 196) played a big role on an Arp team that reached the Class 3A Division II state semifinals this past season as a safety.

He recorded four takeaways and more than 160 tackles in a 15-game campaign, which included a second-place finish in District 9-3A Division II behind Elysian Fields and back-to-back mild upsets against Newton and Crockett in the playoffs to win Region III.

In addition to defense, Overshown spent time at receiver and caught four balls for 121 yards.

Boling defeated Arp in the state semifinals by one point — Arp missed both its PAT attempts and failed on a subsequent two-point conversion in the game’s final minutes — to reach the state championship game.

Gunter crushed Boling in the title match for the crown.

Overshown, like all college football prospects currently in their junior year of high school, will become eligible to sign with any program that offers him in February of 2018.
