CARTHAGE -- Broaddus kept pace for a while at Panola College's Arthur Johnson Gymnasium, but Laneville's trademark swarming defense and uptempo offense proved too much in the end.

Class A Division II's fourth-ranked Yellow Jackets pestered Broaddus into a dozen steals, using big second- and fourth-quarter advantages in a 66-44 victory in Thursday's Tenaha Holiday Hoops Scholarship Classic contest.

Five Laneville players scored at least eight points and another scored six.

Laneville sophomore guard Tralon Alexander and Broaddus junior guard Zayron Price each scored 18 points to lead all scorers. Laneville junior forward Kendrick Anderson had 14 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals, while junior forward Ty Johnson was a force on the defensive end with eight points, four rebounds, four blocks, two assists, and two steals.

Broaddus senior Justin Bobbitt had 16 points and six boards, but Laneville outrebounded Broaddus 35-23.

Senior guard Dontavious Harris had 12 points, seven rebounds, and three steals for Laneville, which used a 19-3 second-quarter advantage to push a three-point lead to 33-14 by halftime. Junior guard Tiarel Franklin finished with eight points and four rebounds, while senior guard Anthony Roberts had six points, five boards, and two steals.

Broaddus tried to get back into the game late in the third quarter, when the Bulldogs closed the period on a 15-4 run after trailing by 23 points to trim Laneville's lead to 45-33.

But Laneville's pressure again broke down Broaddus. The Jackets won the fourth 21-11 to pull away for the 22-point victory.

NOTE: Laneville beat 1A D-I No. 10 San Augustine 64-49 later Thursday afternoon. San Augustine beat Saltillo 74-48 earlier in the day at Gary.

Broaddus faces Saltillo at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Tenaha's Tiger Gymnasium, which is across the street from the Special Events Center.
