The third overall college football scholarship opportunity arrived Thursday morning for Terrell Cooper.

Stephen F. Austin did the honor as it reached out to its fifth local senior in a seven-day period. All of the recent targets compete on the defensive side of the ball.

Cooper (6-3, 240), a senior Lindale defensive end, announced the news through his personal Twitter account. The Lumberjacks program joined Division I FBS competitors Arkansas State and Memphis in his portfolio.

Lindale had one of the best defenses in the area last season. The unit averaged less than 21 points against per game on the way to a Class 5A Division I bi-district playoff appearance.

Cooper's junior campaign ended with a 21-17 loss to Marshall, which averaged 38 points per game through its 13-game season.

The 'Jacks were simultaneously on their way to a 4-7 record last year, but they seemed to turn a corner late in the season. All four wins came in their final six games.

Four losses were by a touchdown or less. A fifth defeat came at the hands of then-No. 3 TCU of the FBS.

Head coach Clint Conque will be back for a third season with Stephen F. Austin this fall. He guided the program to the FCS playoffs his first year.

Brownsboro athlete Tamrick Pace, Nacogdoches receiver Alex Gregory and Tyler Lee quarterback Zach Hall inked with the 'Jacks on National Signing Day. Pittsburg linebacker Fre'Zarian Harrison committed to the program in April as a late addition.

Cooper, like all high school football players in their senior year, will become eligible to sign with any school that offers him in February.
