LONGVIEW -- Program sales should be higher than normal when the Lobos kick off the season in 17 days at Lufkin. There are a handful of major starters returning to the lineup, but if one of East Texas' premiere programs over the years is to compete for a deep run in Class 5A there are going to be names to learn along the way.

PITTSBURG -- A board in the corner of Pirate Stadium tells you everything you need to know about second-year head coach Dickey Meeks' Pittsburg program to this point in time. The 1980 season was the banner year, a Class 3A state championship...

TYLER -- As Tyler Lee officially began is third season under head coach Darrell Piske on Monday morning, the message was pretty clear.

TYLER -- In past years, John Tyler's first practices of the season were held in the evening. Third-year coach Ricklan Holmes decided to change things up this year.

GLADEWATER -- Thursday would have been a good day to drop out of the Bears' football program if someone was in it just for the letter jacket. The UIL permitted teams that began fall camp Monday to begin practicing in pads Friday. Gladewater wasted no time in its quest to overpower classic state championship contenders this season.

VAN -- Dig a pond into the meadow that backs into the Vandals' practice area and you could have the framework for a nice cul-de-sac. LINDALE -- Lindale head coach Mike Meador used the word "excited" five times over the course of a five-minute conversation with ETSN.fm during Thursday morning's practice.

TATUM -- The Eagles figured they were moving from Class 2A to the UIL's new 4A Division II classification in November when the state's primary governing athletics body released its cutoff numbers in December. They weren't disappointed the school was aligned a level up in February with regional powers formerly in Class 3A Division II...

KILGORE -- If only one word was permitted in describing the Kilgore football program, "physical" would likely be the word brought up most often.

NEW CHAPEL HILL -- The Bulldogs' midday practice was crisp. Head coach Thomas Sitton's offense was able to dink and dunk the ball down the field, the defensive front swallowed up running attempts and effort level did not drop drastically as temperatures soared. It was a good day for Chapel Hill.
