GEORGETOWN -- Lufkin entered its Class 5A state semifinal having scored 64 goals on the season, none of them belonging to senior defender Chris Marquez. That all changed Thursday night. Marquez scored with six seconds remaining in the opening half, and the Lufkin defense made stop after stop in a 1-0 shutout of Tomball Memorial at Birkelbach Field.

GEORGETOWN -- The Center Roughriders advanced to the first UIL state soccer tournament in program history this season, and did so having to overcome a few close calls along the way. They finally met their match Wednesday night, as Liberty Hill scored two overtime goals to defeat Center, 2-1, in their Class 4A semifinal at Birkelbach Field.

GEORGETOWN -- The Kilgore Bulldogs were already facing an uphill battle, down two goals at halftime in their Class 4A state semifinal.
