This was a good district last year and there's no reason to believe it won't be just as good in 2017. At least 12 starters are back for each District 8-3A Division II squad, and this league produced three teams that went to the area round or better last season.

Emory Rains entered the 2016 season with big expectations. It didn't disappoint. The Ladycats went undefeated in District 13-4A play and clinched the league title with ease. They advanced on to the Region II tournament semifinal round before calling it a year.

WHITEHOUSE -- Javier Neal's game-best 23 points helped Whitehouse dispose of Brownsboro, 59-44, in its final tuneup game before heading to the Burkburnette Tournament. WHITEHOUSE -- Whitehouse clinched third-place in District 17-5A with a 25-23, 25-15, 21-25, 25-16 win against Ennis. Molly Harris paced the team to its third-place finish. She recorded 40 assists, aced four serves and saved 21 points on defense.
