COLLEGE STATION -- The Chapel HIll Bulldogs began Championship Friday at the Division II state 7-on-7 tournament with the hope of becoming just the second team from East Texas to bring home a title.

And while that goal fell short with a 47-28 loss to China Spring in the semifinal round at Veterans Park and Athletic Complex, Chapel Hill became the final East Texas team from the Division II championship bracket standing.

It was the furthest any Chapel Hill 7-on-7 squad had advanced at the state tournament.

COLLEGE STATION -- East Texas sent eight teams to the Texas State 7-on-7 Championships' Division II tournament. And after one day of action, four of them remain alive for the title following Thursday's action at Veterans Park and Athletic Complex.

Chapel Hill, Gilmer, Carthage, and Crockett all claimed at least a second-place finish in their respective pool to qualify for Friday's 32-team, single-elimination championship bracket.

The Texas State 7-on-7 Championships begin Thursday from College Station's Veterans Park and Athletic Complex with Division II pool play.

The Texas State 7-on-7 Association has published its Division I and Division II tournament pools for the state-wide event next week at College Station's Veterans Park and Athletic Complex.

Eleven East Texas teams will make the trip between July 9 and July 10 after placing within the top two teams at various 7-on-7 state qualifying tournaments around the state.
