Tournament season for East Texas volleyball teams continued Thursday with the commencement of the Tyler Invitational and Hughes Springs Tournament. Whitehouse, Pine Tree, Paris North Lamar and Mabank won their respective pools in Tyler. Redwater, Liberty-Eylau, Queen City and host Hughes Springs came out on top in pool play at the Hughes Springs Tournament.

There's certainly star power and bad blood in District 7-3A Division I. New Boston and Daingerfield are slated to meet for the third time in 13 months, and the Tigers will be looking for a little payback after dominating the Lions in district play and then getting handled in the regional semifinals by the same team.

CARTHAGE -- The Lady Dogs swept John Tyler in the season-opener, 28-26, 25-23, 25-19. John Tyler (0-1) was led by Kandice Jackson's 20 assists and eight digs. Chenique Baxter had a team-best eight kills and Johnetta Preston was just behind with seven kills.

BRYAN -- Hughes Springs pitcher Dylan Moore, who's been dominating opposing hitters for the previous four seasons, received a big honor Monday when he was selected to the first team of the Texas Sports Writers Association/Collin Street Bakery Class 2A All-State Baseball Team.
