Waskom Shuts Out West Rusk In Battle Of Undefeated Teams

Waskom Dylan Harkrider breaks free for a big game.
Waskom quarterback Dylan Harkrider picks up a gain of 39 yards in the third quarter with blocking for Logan Hughes. It set up a Chan Amie touchdown run.

NEW LONDON -- It was the single most important game within East Texas. Unfortunately, rain hurt the final product.

No bands, no halftime and two lightning delays of more than an hour apiece took away the pageantry.

But a football game was still played Friday at Bruce Bradshaw Stadium in New London. And still-undefeated Waskom ran away with it, 40-0, to take control of District 8-3A Division II in favor of previously undefeated West Rusk.

Running back and linebacker Chan Amie led the way with four total touchdowns and 147 rushing yards on 10 carries.

Week 8 of the East Texas football season was an incredibly strong one for individual defenders.

The West Rusk Raiders are one of East Texas' most surprising success stories in 2015, and their senior running back Nick Ballard is a big reason why.

Ballard continued his excellence last Friday night to improve his team to 6-0 on the season. He rushed for 344 yards on a workmanlike 37 carries in the Raiders' 28-21 defeat of Winona in a battle of District 8-3A Division II unbeatens.

For his efforts, Ballard is the ETSN.fm + Dairy Queen Offensive Player of the Week, following last week's winner, Tyler Lee quarterback Chance Amie.
