A day ago, Josh Thompson had zero hard interest from Big 12 Conference schools.

The Nacogdoches cornerback is 30 percent through the conference today. TCU and Kansas State offered Thompson scholarship opportunities Tuesday, following in the footsteps of Texas Tech on Monday afternoon.

Thompson (6-0, 182) announced the Horned Frogs and Wildcats offers through his personal Twitter account.

TCU and Kansas State's offers were the prospect's third and fourth new scholarship opportunities since winning Defensive Most Valuable Player at the ETSN.fm + APEC Football Recruiting Combine on Sunday. Those two schools also advanced Thompson to 18 FBS offers in total, making him the most-recruited junior prospect within East Texas among FBS programs.

Incidentally, former Nacogdoches defensive backs Jaylon Lane and Brandon Jones led their respective classes in sheer volume of college options in 2015 and 2016.

Thompson turned in a lights out performance at the combine event. Highlights included recording a 4.48-second, laser-timed 40-yard dash and a 36-inch vertical jump.

Last season, the corner recorded nine pass breakups, intercepted a pass and recorded 33 tackles through Nacogdoches’ 10 games. He also caught 10 passes for 152 yards as a receiver.

Nacogodches finished its year in a three-team tie for the fourth and final spot out of District 16-5A with Lindale and Corsicana. Lindale advanced to the playoffs by nature of its head-to-head point differential against Nacogdoches and Corsicana.

TCU, which was the first school to reach out to Thompson on the day, had lofty expectations in 2015 after making a great case toward the four-team College Football Playoff the season before. It entered November undefeated before dropping games to Oklahoma State and Oklahoma.

The Horned Frogs' 10-2 regular season propelled the team into the Alamo Bowl to face then-No. 15 Oregon. A few days before the game, however, starting senior quarterback Trevone Boykin was dismissed from the bowl game roster after getting arrested for fighting late at night in a bar.

Fifth-year senior Bram Kohlhausen got his first and only start in the bowl game in lieu of Boykin. He rallied the team from a 31-0 deficit at halftime to a 47-41 win in triple overtime -- tying the record for biggest comeback in bowl game history.

TCU finished the year ranked seventh in the final Associated Press poll.

Kansas State, meanwhile, has several times been a serious national championship contender under legendary head coach Bill Snyder.

The Wildcats' 2015 team was not one of Snyder's top squads. They lost their first six Big 12 games -- four against opponents ranked 20th or higher at the time of the contests -- toward a 6-6 regular season finish.

However, Kansas State still qualified for the Liberty Bowl. The season ended with a 45-23 loss to Arkansas.

The Wildcats program was historically one of the worst in college football before Snyder arrived in Manhattan, Kan., in 1989. By 1991, Snyder had his first winning season and by 1997 the team was in contention for a national championship.

Kansas State has made three Fiesta Bowl appearances and three Cotton Bowl appearances with Snyder in addition to 12 other lower-profile bowl game appearances.

Snyder retired in 2005 and the team's stadium was renamed Bill Snyder Family Football Stadium in his honor as a retirement gift. The coach returned to the sidelines in 2009 after the program declined under intermediary head coach Ron Prince.

Thompson, like all high school football prospects currently in their junior year, will become eligible to sign with any school that offers him in February.
