Texas High Linebacker Anthony Rhone Commits to SMU Over the Weekend

Not long after SMU got a pledge from one East Texas football player in the 2014 class, the Mustangs picked up another Piney Woods pledge.

Texas High's Anthony Rhone committed to SMU on Saturday, according to PonyStampede.com.

Rhone's commitment came less than two weeks after Athens' Chris Jefferson committed to SMU.

The 6-foot, 205-pound linebacker was Texas High’s leading tackler in 2012, when the Tigers went 3-7. He had almost 150 tackles and three fumble recoveries.

SMU has been active in East Texas in its recent recruiting efforts. The Mustangs signed three East Texans in the 2013 class: Atlanta athlete Everett Dickerson, Lufkin receiver JaBryce Taylor, and Gilmer defensive back Trey Washington.

Rhone is 14th East Texan in the 2014 football class to commit and 1 of 29 players in the class with at least one Division I FBS offer. The 2013 class had 17 FBS signees.
